Lakeland Florida is a beautiful city with plenty to do for tourist. Attractions are what we think of when we tell our visiting family members what there is to do near our homes. Contrary to what many believe there are some great things to do that do not involve a trip to Disney even though it is less than 1 hour away.
Polk Theater is a historic location here in the city. The theater was built back in 1928 when the population here was a mere 15,000 citizens. Soon the newness of the city was wearing off and the theater was in danger of becoming forgotten history, and destroyed. Some local citizenry rallied to save it in 1982 and it is now part of the National Register of Historic Places.
This is one of the nice parks in the area and on the shore of a very large lake. The list of amenities includes but is not limited to a boat ramp, fitness trail/path, shuffle board, lawn bowling, rotary playground and picnic pavilions.
The RP Funding Center is Lakelands' version of a sports center/convention center. If something big is happening this is where it will be happening at. Soccer, basketball, concerts, pro sports etc.
Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium is where you can go and enjoy pro baseball. Well at least spring training. With 8500 seats and remodeled in 2017 this is actually the spring training location for the Detroit Tigers since they wont lose their baseballs in the snow. This is also the home of the minor league Lakeland Flying Tigers and the Gulf Coast Tigers.
The Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center is a great place for those of us who have done any building to visit. He was a famous architect and in a way you almost want to say that he still is. He influenced many who followed and though it may seem kind of corny he lives on through his surviving works and influence.
I could have made this list much longer. However, I wanted to stay inside of the city of Lakeland and not duplicate other information found on this site. Rest assured if you wanted to keep visitors engaged for a couple of hours or a couple of days you can do so with Lakeland Florida's tourism and attractions.
