Lakeland is the kind of city you can live comfortably in. The downtown area is not so large you that you cannot park. You can drive there just about any time during the day and walk around or grab a bite to eat in a local restaurant.
Most of the downtown area is government buildings, Lakeland Electric or commercial. I never have felt the least bit concerned for my safety downtown. The weekly market is held downtown and helps with the sense of community.
Most believe the southern part of the city is the nicest. There are newer homes being built to the west and in the southern parts.
Parks and lakes are everywhere you look. Shopping is primarily on US-98 and FL-37 but many other retailers are spread around the town/ city as needed. Thank you for asking the question, What kind of city is Lakeland.
