The city of Winter Haven FL is a well known town filled with beautiful lakes and happy residents. The Winter Haven area's pleasant climate makes it perfect for a pontoon boat or the local theme parks here regardless of the season. If you water ski or know someone who likes to water ski this should be the principal city you are looking to live in.
Similar to any populated towns nearby like Lakeland, Tampa or Orlando you need more than one attraction to stick out in Central Florida. Winter Haven FL has a lot going for it and many such attractions.
Just a few of them are Cypress Gardens, Legoland Florida Resort, Peppa Pig, and several chain of lakes. All of the lakes here is one of the reasons why this location is considered the Water Ski Capital of the world and this has become such a populated city.
Winter Haven Florida is in Polk County which is one of the largest (land mass wise) counties in Central Florida. This town sprang up back in the 1840's and now has the second largest population in Polk County.
It's population grew by 5000 from 2019 to the end of 2020. Many move to Florida for the climate. This areas temperate climate is why it was given the name Winter Haven. One of the reasons for the temperate climate is the many lakes in the Winter Haven area.
What is a chain of lakes? More than one lake which is connected via canal. The canals allow a pontoon boat, water skiers and those fishing to move from lake to lake without ever leaving the water. Some of the local population will take a short drive on the lake to visit a lakefront restaurant or bar.

Today what was formerly Cypress Gardens is now Legoland Florida and the Legoland Florida resort. This is a place for the entire family to enjoy with many fun things to do. I have been there several times and I still don't think I have seen it all.
There is even a water park on the northern end where you can also watch people water skiing while you take a break from other fun things. Peppa Pig is on the south end of Legoland Florida. While still not as grand as Walt Disney World these parks are certainly nice. If you prefer then look into Winter Garden FL. A beautiful city next to Walt Disney but much more expensive and without as many lakes.
There are two amazing nearby botanical gardens. One location a short drive away is Bok Tower Gardens. Bok Tower is the best of the nearby gardens hands down. It has been around for many years and is located just about 9 miles away.
Trust me, worth a visit as it is huge. The second place would go to Hollis Gardens in Lakeland. It is funded by basically Publix Super Markets which you will see everywhere.
Central Avenue runs west to east and passes by the south part of Central Park in Downtown Winter Haven Florida. This city as a surprisingly nice and modern downtown area. Many a family will visit it each day for a variety of reasons.
There are restaurants, the Trailhead Park and a surprisingly nice Winter Haven City Tennis Center. Of course many of the government offices are located around this area.
Expect growth in the town of Winter Haven for decades to come. North of the Winter Haven area is Lake Alfred and there is an explosion of growth happening there as well. It is not just the water skiing that is drawing new people. Florida's potential is just now being released and the rest of the world has discovered Winter Haven Florida.
