Mannys Chophouse in Winter Haven Florida is just one of many fine places to eat in the city. Located on the southeast corner of US-17 and Avenue K SW it is pretty much what I refer to as downtown Winter Haven FL. Even though most would say the downtown area is a short hop to the NE.
I am just really glad to be able to go and have dinner out again. My wife and I spent the day working in the sun (yard chores) and we wanted to set someplace cool and eat. So this time we chose Mannys Chophouse in Winter Haven FL. After all it is just a short drive from our home and we were bushed.
Finding Mannys is pretty easy. I already knew where it was but it is fairly hard to miss. You will see it fairly easily when you pull up to it or when you drive by. Parking is fairly easy and believe it or not there was a decent crowd there for 6 PM on a Sunday evening.
I usually like to make reservations. However you cant do that right now at Mannys Chophouse. However if you are on your way if you call they will hold a table for you if you give them your name and number in your party. When we arrived I checked in up front to let them know I had actually showed and then we were promptly seated.
Immediately upon being seated I noticed the silverware and one menu. The menu was paper and is shown below. I know they are probably trying to save them but we were sitting at a booth and asked for another so we could both have one. The waitress obliged and we began to look it over.
We chose the loaded fries (large) for a starter and we both ordered the full rack of baby back ribs. The ribs come with a salad and one side. My wife ordered the rolls with whipped cinnamon butter and I ordered the garlic mashed potatoes. We have been married coming up on 20 years and I can order garlic now.
Full disclosure, my wife eats very little. I am fairly fit and eat quite a bit. So what I am saying is trust me, I tried everything. The fries were good but eat them while they are hot. They are covered with cheese and bacon and the cheese gets a little stiff when the fries cool off. They tasted good so I ate every last one. The rolls were soft and ig you like cinnamon butter then you will really like them.
My wife and I both drank ice water. About the only thing that bothered me about the whole night was that the waitress never refilled the water glasses. I am a good tipper and I just do not think I should have to ask.
I really liked the salad. The waitress stirs it in a large metal bowl and serves it in a smaller bowl one for my wife and one for me. After you finish the bowl you just get more. The salad was actually really good so yes, I ate it all.
I am a steak or even better yet a hamburger aficionado. Or so I like to think after all I have eaten thousands of them. To be a little different I had ordered the baby back ribs. The portion was a full rack and I was not disappointed with the size. The cost for them was $22 but this is not 1980. The taste was actually really good and yes they were the perfect amount of tender. I have had them more tender but I prefer the way they came served. I still have teeth and do not mind using them on a great piece of meat.
We skipped desert because we were tired and have ice cream at home. That probably sounds familiar to some of you. While we were waiting to pay the bill we watched several deserts being delivered and I admit to having second thoughts. The total bill was $55 rounded up to the next dollar. I gave the waitress $70 cash because I know these times are hard and I have been blessed though out my life. Not because of exceptional service.
On a scale of 1-100 I give them about a 85 for both food and service. I recently ate at Chilis in Auburndale and If I were being honest a 70 would be appropriate. I will return to Manny's Chophouse someday for their Wednesday night Fajita special or that 24 ounce steak on their menu. I would like to thank the servers and cooks for their efforts at Mannys Chophouse in Winter Haven FL.
